Inclusion-Exclusion (Easy)

AMC 10 Q1–8 depth — contest entry, not school drills.

Inclusion-Exclusion: core idea

Two sets.

Example problem: hint and answer

How many integers from 11 to 3030 are divisible by 22 **or** 33?

Hint: ⌊30/2⌋+⌊30/3⌋−⌊30/6⌋\lfloor30/2\rfloor+\lfloor30/3\rfloor-\lfloor30/6\rfloor. Answer: 20.

Practice (9 problems — type your answers)

  • 1. How many integers from 11 to 5050 are divisible by 22 **or** 55?

  • 2. Sets A,BA,B satisfy ∣A∣=20|A|=20, ∣B∣=15|B|=15, ∣A∩B∣=8|A\cap B|=8. Find ∣A∪B∣|A\cup B|.

  • 3. How many integers from 11 to 6060 are divisible by 33 **or** 44?

  • 4. How many integers from 11 to 2424 are divisible by 22 **or** 33?

  • 5. Sets A,BA,B satisfy ∣A∣=30|A|=30, ∣B∣=22|B|=22, ∣A∩B∣=10|A\cap B|=10. Find ∣A∪B∣|A\cup B|.

  • 6. How many integers from 11 to 4545 are divisible by 33 **or** 55?

  • 7. How many integers from 11 to 100100 are divisible by 22 **or** 55?

  • 8. How many integers from 11 to 3636 are divisible by 22 **or** 33?

  • 9. Sets A,BA,B satisfy ∣A∣=12|A|=12, ∣B∣=18|B|=18, ∣A∩B∣=5|A\cap B|=5. Find ∣A∪B∣|A\cup B|.
